Class A Boys Pre-Season Team Watch List

A year after a shocking upset that saw Nova Classical Academy fail to make State, their 2018 team did qualify (the first time in the history of the 17-year-old school), and they finished fifth overall. In the spring, they reached even higher heights by claiming the 4x800m championship one year after finishing third in the event. However, this year could be the school's best yet as all seven runners from the 2018 squad return. Led by seniors Lukas Landas and Dare Akinmusire (who is coming off an outstanding track season that saw him finish 3rd at State in the 800m in addition to anchoring their championship relay) and a top-five spread of just 44 seconds (the best of any team on this list), Nova could be on the verge of creating a powerhouse. Just three of their returning top seven are seniors, and they bring back 12 returning athletes who have run under 20 minutes, making them one of the deepest Class A boys teams. If the gains this team made during the track season are fully expounded upon this fall, it wouldn't be hard to see Nova seriously challenge Perham or WCA as the top team in Class A.
