Staples-Motley faces a competitive section but they won by two points last year and return all seven runners from that 6A championship team. For the Cardinals to improve on their fifth place team finish at state it will need to see improvement from its fifth runner. In a field of teams who have five runners under 21 minutes, Staples-Motley will need to find improvement in its final scoring stick. At the front they feature three strong runners in Kira Sweeney (19:16), Kyanna Burton (19:27) and Ashley Robben (19:50) that keep pace with the top three runners for the best teams in class A. Fourth runner Addison Lorber (20:16) is also strong enough to keep the Cards in contention. Depth needs to develop as the sixth and seventh runners times currently leave little margin for an off day among the team's top five. But if those five all come through on the same day, Staples-Motley is going to figure in at the top of the best teams in the state.
