MAPLE LAKE (NR)
Though Maple Lake did not make into the preseason coaches poll our PR based team score projection presents favorable match-ups against several teams that made that list. It's probably a long shot that the Irish would challenge Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted for the section 5A title, but it looks very realistic Maple Lake is part of a tight race for second with Providence Academy and Annandale. On any given day those teams are interchangeable on paper. Maple Lake sent sophomore Sophie Pribyl and junior Augustus Demarais to state last year and third runner junior Mary Miller is coming off a 3200m track PR after running an XC PR of 20:03 as a freshman two seasons ago. If Miller can return to that level and the fourth through sixth runners can improve their PRs currently around 21 minutes, Maple Lake is a team to watch among contenders for a top ten placement at state.
