LUVERNE (1)
The coaches chose Luverne as the preseason number one and it's easy to see why. The Cardinals ran away from section 3A last year and finished just seven points behind Cotter in fourth place at state. They return all-state sophomore Tenley Nelson (18:13 PR) and junior Regan Feit (19:03 PR) who each ran 7th and 20th at state last year. Additionally, all seven from their state race return this fall. Sophomore Brooklynn Versteeg has also broke 20 minutes as Luverne's third runner last fall. As we mentioned for Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted, low sticks are crucial and it's reasonably possible the Cards could have two inside the top 10 this season considering Nelson and Feit are ranked 5th and 11th among returners in our class A database. If the 1-5 split of over 2:30 in our team score predictor gets trimmed it is also reasonable Luverne will be at or near the top at state this year. By the way, the entire should team will be back again in 2020.
