Shaina Zinter Will Win 4 Class A State Championships
Winning four state championships is incredibly rare. The last time someone accomplished that feat was back in 2012 when RJ Alowonle won the Class AA 110H, 300H, Triple Jump, and 4x100m titles. In fact, if we're talking about four individual state championships, that has never happened in MSHSL history. But considering Zinter's performances from last season, she has a real shot at 4 individual titles.
Last season Zinter was the Class A State Champion in the 100m hurdles and 300m hurdles. She comes into the season as the top returning hurdler in all of Minnesota and is easily the best in Class A. She should be able to repeat in the hurdles, already almost guaranteeing her two state titles.
Last year she also competed at State in the 200m dash and in the long jump, finishing 3rd and 4th there respectively. Both Anisa Thompson and Ellie Sonju who finished ahead of her at state return, but they both will move up to Class AA this season. If Zinter runs close to her PR (25.02) in the 200m, she will be tough to beat.
Zinter is now the top long jump returner in Class A with the graduation of Nyalaam Jok, Maggie Larson, and Lindsey Root who were the top three finishers at state in 2021. She is the clear favorite there.
Overall, Zinter is the top returner in Class A in the 200m, 400m, 100m hurdles, 300m hurdles, and long jump. She also has top-five marks in the 800m, high jump, and shot put. Given her talent, it wouldn't be a surprise to see her at state in five or six events and then win at least four of her events.
