Known for producing state-leading marks, U.S. No. 1 performances and even national records, the CYUP Misfits Invitational certainly didn't disappoint in its third year.

Top-five all-time high school marks in the boys 600m and 2-mile, along with dominance in events ranging from the mile to the 60m, made the event one for the record books.

And it was one of the final events of the day that proved the most shocking.

In a highly-anticipated battle in the boys 2-mile that featured a indoor national record chase headlined by sub-4 miler Connor Burns, it was the Team Nationals fourth-place finisher Jackson Heidesch who came away with the win in historic fashion. The senior out of Dowling Catholic (IA) waited until the final stretch to surge ahead of Burns and put a gap on the field, winning in a US No. 4 all-time mark of 8:42.6 for two miles.

Burns would also dip under 8:50 in 8:48.53, followed by Minnesota indoor 3k record holder Noah Breker in 8:57.04.

But it wasn't just the boys 2-mile that proved intriguing. In the girls competition minutes beforehand, Richland County's (IL) Tatum David scored a big win with a U.S. No. 1 10:22.70, winning by nearly 40 seconds. The win also helped David complete her successful distance double as she took the mile race earlier in the day in 4:50.14 over fellow Illinois talent Grace Schager in second in 4:56.22.

You can't mention all-time performances, though, without mentioning the name Andrew Regnier. The Milwaukee Speed Academy (WI) senior ran the second-best boys 600m race of all time, clocking 1:17.52. It puts him behind only Will Sumner in high school history in the event, who set the 1:15.58 at the 2022 installment of the CYUP Misfits Invite.

There were so many great performances at CYUP Misfits that it's almost impossible to break down all of them. Emmi Scales joined Tatum David with an impressive double on Saturday with a 60mH win in 8.51 and a runner-up finish in the 60m in 7.62. And rounding out the top performers in the distance races was Benzie Central's (MI) Hunter Jones with a top-five mile effort of 4:07.36.
