Two Minnesota track & field athletes will compete at the USATF U20 Outdoor National Championships next week in recent Irondale graduate Juriad Hughes Jr. and NDSU freshman Aleah Miller.
A qualifying spot on the U.S. junior team is on the line and a ticket to the Pan American U20 Championships can be earned with a top two placement at the meet next week in Eugene, Oregon.
Juriad Hughes Jr. will compete at U20s in the long jump, an event he went undefeated in this season, setting a new state record with a jump of 24' 11" and winning the Nike Outdoor Nationals title with a jump of 24' 8.75".
Hughe's Jr. will compete against a field which includes University of Miami commit Ashton Torns, Arizona state champion Brennen McHenry, All-Americans Chris Preddie & Gregory Foster Jr., and more.

The other Minnesotan competing at the U20 Championships is current North Dakota State University freshman Aleah Miller. Miller a 2022 graduate of Alexandria will compete in the 1500m field.
As a freshman for NDSU this season, she won a Summit League indoor title in the distance medley relay and placed fifth in the mile at the conference meet. Miller qualified for the USATF U20 Championships by clocking 4:31.44 in the 1500m in April.
Miller will compete against a field that includes national steeplechase record holder Angelina Napoleon, multi-time national champion Ellie Shea, and Virginia state champion Reese Dalton.
