Minnesota High School Track & Field: Early May Highlights

We saw too many impressive performances during the first full week of May to gush about them all. But here, we highlighted some of the most impressive.

Boys

At the Section 1AA True Team Meet, Stewartville High School junior Thomas Lofgren won the shot put with a lifetime best of throw 57-9 in the event. He now ranks #8 for Minnesota in the event.

On the other side of the field, Carson Heimer won the boys' high jump at the Section 1AA True Team Meet. The senior from Byron High School cleared a personal best of 6-8 to secure the win. Heimer is tied for 3rd in Minnesota, headed into mid-May.

Tyden Schaefer, a senior from Frazee High School, cleared a lifetime best 16-0 at the Class AAA True Team Wild Card meet, and is currently tied as the top-ranked pole vaulter in the state. He's one of just three to have cleared the 16' mark this season.

Senior Howie Johnson took first and third in the shot put and discus at the Class AAA True Team Wild Card Meet. Competing for Forest Lake Area High School, Johnson achieved a season best 58-8.5 to claim the shot put title and recorded a 168-0 mark in the disc, and ranks in the top ten for both events in Minnesota.

In the 800m and 1600m, Hunter Jacobson took runner-up in both events at the Class AAA True Team Wild Card Meet. The junior from Cambridge-Isanti High School clocked in at 1:57.82 800m and 4:17.88, a lifetime best.

Girls

Senior Mayah Otto of Saint Croix Lutheran High School won the girls' high jump at the Section 3AA True Team Meet, clearing a lifetime best 5-6 that leads Minnesota in the event.

In the discus, Alexis Fahey had a dominant performance at the Stillwater Shoot Your Shot Throwdown. The senior from Forest Lake Area High School threw a PR of 161-0 to lead the state and improve her win streak this season. (Fahey also won this shot put section, recording a 40-2 to secure the victory.)

Minnesota's 800m state leader, Noella Ross, took the title in the 400m at the Section 7AAA True Team Meet. The senior from Chaska High School crossed the line in a personal best of 56.21 - she currently ranks #6 in the 400m.

At the Matt Kero Memorial Invitational, Ellie Magnus continued her 2026 win streak in the 200m. The senior from Hastings High School recorded a lifetime best of 24.26 as she crossed the line. Magnus currently leads Minnesota in the half-lap race.

Temitope Amusan of Rochester Century High School won the shot put at the Class AAA True Team Wild Card Meet. The junior recorded a 44.7.75 lifetime best to take first and is the shot put leader for the state. Amusan also threw the disc 111-6 to take 6th last week.
