SECTION 7A TRACK AND FIELD MEET
                                       	         GIRLS AND BOYS
       	      University of Minnesota Duluth
                                          		                    June 3, 2011

The Section 7A Track and Field Meet will be conducted under the official track rules.

GENERAL INFORMATION:

     The track is an 8 lane polyurethane surface. (Field  runways are the same composition as the track.) 
     Only ΒΌ" pyramid spikes will be allowed. No pin spikes at all! 
     There will be a pass gate for coaches and participating athletes and team manager. Coach must enter
      there and check your athletes in. 
     All meet personnel have been secured, so coaches may sit in the stands and relax.
     A trainer will be provided--if you have any questions or problems, don't hesitate to use the service. 

MEET CONDUCT:

1. Only contestants and meet officials will be allowed on the track. This is a restricted area for coaches. The area immediately around the field event judges are also restricted.

2. Starting blocks will be provided.   Provide your own batons.    Scoring will be 10 - 8 - 6 - 5 - 4 - 3 - 2- 1

 MEET PROCEDURES:

1. Coach meet at 9 :45 a.m.  Field events begin at 10:15 a.m.  Running events will begin at 10:15 a.m.

2. There will be no more than fourteen (14) entries in each event except relays where there will be no more than eight (8) total, except for those who qualify by standard.

3. All running events that have preliminaries will be set up as follows:

      A. All entries will be seeded according to results of Sub-Section meets. The 2 place winners in each
           sub-section will be seeded by place and time in the fastest heat--all others will be seeded by time not
           place,
      B. Heat leaders will be set in the prelims of the 100, 110 meter High Hurdles, and 100 meter
           Hurdles.
     C. All finalists will qualify and be placed in lanes by their preliminary times.
     D. Preferred lanes are as follows: Straight-away (5-4,6-3,7-2,8-1 ); Curves (4-5,3-6,2-7,1-8).
     E. In the preliminary track events, the hurdle races will be run first, then the 100 meter, and then the
          girls 4x8OO relay & boys 4X800 relay finals.
     F. There will be no 200 meter prelims contested.

4. The 400 Meter Dash will be run in lanes all the way from a two turn stagger start. See item 3 A. Then the slowest times will run in heat one, next best in heat two, and the fastest in the last heat. Placing will be by time.

5. The 3OO Meter Intermediate Hurdles will be run in lanes from a one turn stagger start .See item 3A.   The best times will run in the last heat. Placing will be by time.

6. The 800 meter will be run in preferred lanes. A one (1) turn stagger will be used. Runners in lanes around one turn and may cut for the pole after completion of the turn.

7. The 1600 and 3200 will be run from a one turn stagger in two (four lane) alleys.

8. The 4x8OO m. relay will be run from a one turn stagger. They will be in alleys if more that eight (8) teams qualify.

9. The 4x4OO -- three (3) turn stagger. #2 runner cuts for pole after the completion of the turn.

10. Relays will be seeded according to item 3A on page one. Each heat will have at least four teams.

11. The 4x2OO will be run from a four (4) turn stagger.

12. Weigh-in for the shot and discus will be conducted at the awards stand before the start of the meet. All
       implements must be weighed in by 10:10.

13. No items in excess of the uniforms will be allowed. This includes bandannas, caps, sunglasses, etc.

FIELD EVENTS:

Field events will be conducted in 2  flights in the shot put and discus. See item 3 A. Flight 2 will be the best qualifying efforts and will throw last.  Eight will qualify for the finals, to be completed right after the preliminaries. In the Shot Put and Discus every legal throw will be measured.

Pole Vault and High Jump will be conducted according to Rule 10, Section 2 Article 2 - Continuing flights. Starting height for pole vault will be determined with entering heights. Boys High Jump starting height - 5'4', 5'7', 5' 10', 2' per rise until 6'2", one 1 ' thereafter. Girls High Jump starting height – 4’ 4’, 4' 7', 4' 10', 2' rise to 5' 2', and 1 ' after 5' 2'.

Horizontal Jumps will be conducted in 2 flights, with Finals immediate after the Prelims.

AWARDS:

1st and 2nd place individual finishers will advance to the State Meet and 1st place relay teams advance to State Meet. In addition, a contestant or relay team may qualify to State Meet when their performance in the Section Finals surpasses or equals the State standard. Medals will be given for six places. Trophies: Champion and Runner-up.

LIMITATIONS ON PARTICIPATION:

   1. A contestant may participate in a total of four events (track and field), but not in excess of three track or field events in arriving at the combination of four. 
   2. If a contestant participates in three track events, only two events may be 800 meters or longer. 
   3. A contestant who fails to qualify in a preliminary of any event shall be considered to have participated in the event. 
   4. In section and state competition, contestant must compete in all events in which he qualifies.  Violation of this  rule will result in disqualification of the participant in all events in which he or she is entered. Medical exceptions to this policy will  be handled on an individual basis at the meet by the Games Committee.
