Minnesota At Nike Cross Nationals

Girls Team

Edina- The Edina girls were a distant second to Wayzata, both at NXR Heartland and the State meet, however they have put together a very strong and deep seven runners who have continued to improve throughout the postseason. Led by senior, Emily Kompelien, they will look to have a solid race that puts the team in contention for a top-10 place.

Having qualified for NXN for the third straight year (finishing 12th last year), experience is also playing a large role for the Edina girls. "Having girls who have been here before is helpful to guide the new ones through the whole experience," said Sadie Schreiner. Maddy Lawler describes the 'perfect race' as, "Finding our places early, and getting out hard and smart."

Comfortable winners of both NXR Heartland and the State meet, the girls from Wayzata are looking to be in contention for the top team honors tomorrow (ranked fourth in the polls). It has been a few years since the Wayzata girls have qualified for NXN, but their 2013 squad was one of very few to ever beat Fayetteville-Manlius. However, none of this team's top seven have participated at NXN before.

Led by sophomore, Emma Atkinson, Wayzata will be looking to carry some of their momentum from the regular season and transform it into a top-3 finish. "None of us have ever been here before, and we are really looking to go out and execute well, focusing on our own race," said senior Carmen Rottinghaus.
