RACE HIGHLIGHTS: Anna Rohrer of Mishawaka, Ind., and Jake Leingang of Bismark, N.D., won the Foot Locker Cross Country Championships (FLCCC) Midwest Regional today. The girls’ race was dominated by a tight group of runners, with the lead exchanging several times. At the two-mile mark, Rohrer made her move to take the lead and never looked back, breaking the course record in 16:54. (The previous course record was held by Claire Durkin of Columbus, Ohio at 17:01 in 2007.) Taylor Werner of Bloomsdale, Mo., placed second in 17:06, and Maria Hauger of Shakopee, Minn., placed third in 17:07. Hauger is a two-time FLCCC National Finalist
In the boys’ race, Nicholas Raymond of Erie, Mich., was in the lead at the one-mile and two-mile marks. At 2.5 miles, Leingang, a senior from Bismarck High School, and Sam Wharton of Tipp City, Ohio, surged ahead of Raymond to battle for the coveted first place spot. Leingang claimed the title in 14:56, and Wharton placed second in 14:56. Raymond finished in 15:02, placing third. Leingang is a two-time FLCCC National Finalist.
