Salute To Seniors: Taylor Johnson - Eden Prairie High School

Note:  Taylor competed for Chanhassen High School prior to this season at Eden Prairie High School

What was your most memorable race?

The 2012 MSHSL State Triple Jump. I won by a quarter of an inch!!!

Who would you consider your biggest competition over your four years?

Tatyana Pashibin (Mpls Southwest), Piper Jensen & Mia Barron (Minnetonka). Classy Competitors!!!

What was your greatest accomplishment?

Winning the 2012 MSHSL State Triple Jump.

If you could do it all over again what would you change about your running career in high school?

Started running the 100 Hurdles earlier in my career.

What were the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome?

Little is known that I had an injury prior to the start of my flight at the 2012 state meet in the Triple Jump and almost pulled out of the competition. After receiving advice from Coach Barlass to remain in the completion, I was able to bypass the pain and focus on the event. I just couldn’t see myself sitting on the sideline watching someone else win without me at least making an attempt.

What will you miss the most?

Teammates and bus rides to and from meets. Lots of fun.

What advice you would give to younger athletes?

Participate in more than one sport. Treat your teammates, coaches & competitors with respect!!! Make sure you have fun and spend extra time practicing your events. Motivate and elevate your team as a whole.

What influence has your coach had with respect to your performance and overall life goals?

All my coaches were very instrumental in seeing my untapped potential and always challenged me to do things outside of my comfort zone.  They believed in me, encouraged me to take risks and helped restore my confidence.

What are your college plans?

I will be attending The University of Wisconsin (Madison) as a member of their women’s track team (Triple Jump/ heptathlon).

Who would you like to say thank you to?

Jummy Barlass, Bruce Kivimaki & Mike Sandle Eden Prairie, Chris Schriever &Tom Szewczyk from Chanhassen, Coach Bingle U of Minnesota, Coach Davis U of Wisconsin, Mom & Dad, Grandma Ellen & Uncle Charles, Sister Jordan & God.

Is there anything else you'd like to add?

“We lose ourselves in the things we love. We find ourselves there too” Kristin Martz.
