Ever since 1987, Minnesota has offered an alternative method of determining which teams in the state are truly the best - the State Championships, while excellent at highlighting Minnesota's most outstanding athletes, simply did not do so. Why were teams who were easily defeated in duals, tris, and invitationals the entire season able to score more points at the State Championships than the teams who had previously defeated them soundly? How could a team be crowned a "State Champion" when only a small handful of athletes (or less) were responsible for the points that team accumulated?
The solution to this problem was True Team, and in the 31 years of it's existence, it has excellently served it's purpose in crowning the state's finest, deepest, and most successful teams. Every athlete and every relay contributes to a team's score from the event-winners who score the most points to even the last person to cross the finish line scoring a single point. And every point could count.
