After missing the latter half of his sophomore cross country season with injury, Oliver Paleen finally had his breakout campaign in 2018. Until he earned a top ten performance last season, Paleen's only previous experience at State was finishing 101st as a freshman, a seemingly meteoric rise. However, his elevated performance last fall should not have been overly surprising, considering he ran 9:33.54 to qualify for State in the 3200m the spring prior. Regardless, Paleen made the leap to elite status, and he carried his momentum into track, where he ended the season ranked ninth in Minnesota in both the 1600m (4:16.99) and the 3200m (9:19.19).
