Minnesota Class AA Boys Pre-Season Individual Watch List

Since his sophomore year, Nick Scheller has been the heir apparent to the State title in the Class of 2020. In cross country, Scheller has finished fifth and sixth at State in the past two years, not losing to anyone in his grade or younger. It's also easy to forget that Scheller ran 9:13.78 over 3200m as a sophomore back in 2018. However, track season showed the Scheller is by no means invincible: he missed qualifying for State altogether (by .25 of a second in the 1600m and .08 in the 3200m). That being said, it's important to note that Scheller's times from sections (4:20.08/9:23.38) were both significantly faster than he had run at that point in 2018. Given his consistency on the grass, Nick Scheller should enter as the odds on favorite to cross the line first in 2019.
