Sortland will be a high schooler this year but she's already a veteran at the XC State Meet. After opening her account with a 3rd place result in section 1A and an 11th place finish at State, she returned in 2018 to another 3rd place section finish and improved to 8th in class A with a time 25 seconds faster than her previous state performance. She posted a half-dozen sub 19-minute XC finishes in 2018, including a win in the Milaca D3 race and a Hiawatha Valley League title earned with an 18:30.5 PR effort (ranked 8th class A). That improvement continued in the spring where PRs included going sub-10 in the 3200 (10:53.16) and 5:05.00 in the 1600 taking 4th and 6th in those events at State. Sortland looks to be a runner on the rise going into the fall.
