Dylan Gross, Brainerd High School

Class of 2024

---

Gross is off to a torrid start to the 2022 track and field season with his time of 19.44 in the 100m dash...

In all seriousness here now, Gross who is only a sophomore appears to be an up-and-coming shot put thrower for Brainerd High School Just this year, he has throws of 51' 11", 50' 6", and 53' 2". If we look at the top shot put throws for all boys in Minnesota this year,  he has the third-best indoor throw, and the 7th and 14th best outdoors among all performances.

He leads all sophomore boys in Minnesota for both the indoor and outdoor shot put, and he is the only Minnesota underclassman boy to throw over 50 feet this season. If we look at his national ranks for his class, he ranks 20th overall for outdoor and 14th overall for indoor.

If we look at his current place in Minnesota shot put history, he owns the 2nd best shot put throw all-time for a Minnesota freshman boy, with his mark of 53' 4", only trailing Osseo's Tim Beigerts mark of 53' 8" from 1975. So yeah you could say his freshman year performance was historic.

To move into the all-time sophomore list this spring, he would have to beat Jim Micket's mark of 54' 9.5" from 1964. To break into the top three, he would have to eclipse Mitchell Weber's mark of 59' 0" from 2016.
