Dwyne Smith, Apple Valley High School
Class of 2024
---
At his last meet, Smith ran as one of the youngest runners at the 2022 Hamline Elite Meet, where he competed in the 200m and 400m dash. In those events, he placed 3rd in the 400m dash and 9th in the 200m dash. Solid results in a largely upperclassmen meet but pretty special when looked at historically.
In the 400m dash at Hamline, Smith ran a 49.16 which was almost a 1.5 second PR, but also historically one of the best times for a Minnesota sophomore boy all-time as seen below:
RANK | TIME | ATHLETE/TEAM | GRADE | MEET DATE PLACE |
---|---|---|---|---|
1 | 47.79 | Roseville Area High School | 2003 | |
2 | 48.38 | Wayzata High School | 2014 | |
3 | 48.76 | East Ridge High School | 2013 | |
4 | 48.78 | Eden Prairie High School | 2000 | |
5 | 48.91 | Hopkins High School | 2002 | |
6 | 49.01 | ICAA/Breeze Track Club | 2018 | |
7 | 49.06 | Rochester Mayo High School | 2003 | |
8 | 49.12 | Woodbury High School | 2003 | |
9 | 49.14 | Waconia High School | 1997 | |
10 | 49.16 | Apple Valley High School | 2024 |
Next year, he will be one of three boys returners for Hamline in the 200m and one of four boys in the 400m, meaning he will have a great shot at a prestigious Hamline title.
