Polls: Minnesota Boys XC Runner of the Year (Final)

Final: Andrew Casey (8) vs. Emmett Gerres (2)

---

Andrew Casey:

One of only two teams to beat the Wayzata boys and the only one to do it twice was Andrew Casey and the Lakeville North boys. The Lakeville North boys won the St. Olaf High School Showcase and finished as the runner-up in the Roy Griak boys Gold race ahead of Wayzata and the rest of the Minnesota boys teams.

The Lakeville North boys won every meet against Minnesota competition up until the state meet where they finished 3rd overall behind Wayzata and Rosemount, both teams who they beat on multiple occasions. Overall they won 6 meets in Minnesota and in every meet their #1 runner was Andrew Casey.

Casey won five meets this season that included the prestigious Lakeville AppleJack Invitational, the Owatonna Ev Berg Invitational, and both the South Suburban Conference and Section 1AAA titles. Casey set a new 5K PR of 15:16.95 that ranked #8 in Minnesota this season.

Emmett Gerres:

If last year was the coming out party for Emmett Gerres, this year was the season when he cemented his status as a Minnesota legend. Gerres lost his first and last races of the season at the St. Olaf High School Showcase but won the 10 races in between which included the Minnesota River Conference and the Section 2AA titles.

At the Minnesota River Conference Championships, Gerres ran a time of 15:07.30 to win the race by 74 seconds for the conference title and the #16 performance all-time by a Minnesota boy.

Gerres finished his season by winning the Class AA boys state title by 10 seconds over Cameron Stocke with a time of 15:13.62, which is the #3 time all-time for Class AA at the state meet.
