The end of the 2022 Minnesota cross country and track and field seasons is here!! It's been a whirlwind of a year with breakthrough athletes, state records, nationally prominent athletes, and so much more. 

Now that this season is at its end, we look back on 2022 and the athletes that had the best overall years!

Now is your opportunity to vote for your MileSplit Minnesota girls athlete of the year for 2022.

The Candidates

Jade Rypkema was perfect this year on the track and during the cross country in Minnesota. She won the Class A titles in the 1600m, 3200m, and 5K (XC) titles this season. The only three losses all year for her have been at NSAF Nationals where she finished 4th in the 5K with a time of 17:07.33; at the Team Heartland Regional where she finished 3rd overall in the 5K behind Nechanicky and Paityn Noe; and at Team Nationals where she finished 53rd overall. 

Abbey Nechanicky had a very impressive 2022 after coming off an injury during the 2021 cross country season. She ran PRs in the 1600m, 3200m, 2-mile races, and the 5K (XC). Won the Class AAA state title in the 3200m and finished 3rd in the 1600m. Her season finished at New Balance Nationals with a 3rd place finish in the 2-mile with a time of 10:10.07 which ranks her #2 all-time in Minnesota. During the XC season, Nechanicky went undefeated in Minnesota while running numerous course and meet records. She finished 4th overall at Team Nationals. 

Jordyn Borsch had a historic season in the 100m, 200m, and 400m, setting huge personal best times in all events. She won the Class AAA state titles in the 100m and 400m. Her times in the events rank her 8th all-time in the 100m, 18th in the 200m, and 2nd all-time in the 400m. 

Ava Cinnamo had a record-breaking season which culminated in a state record in the triple jump, two Class AAA state titles, and a 3rd place triple jump finish at NSAF Nationals. Led the state in both the long jump and triple jump marks, and competed in four events at nationals. 

Shaina Zinter finished her high school career on a high note as she became a national champion in the heptathlon at NSAF Nationals. Also won three Class A state titles in the 200m dash, 100m hurdles, and 300m hurdles. Finished off her high school heptathlon career strong with a 2:10.47 800m dash at NSAF Nationals that ranks 9th all-time in Minnesota.
