Minnesota River Conference to Disband After 2023-24

---

Formed in the late 1950s, the Minnesota River Conference will disband after the 2023-2024 school year. The current members of the conference have voted to disband the conference as several schools have left the conference in the past decade, leaving it with just seven members.

Those current members are Belle Plaine, LeSueur-Henderson, Lester Prairie, Mayer Lutheran, Norwood Young America, Sibley East, and Tri-City United.

Former members include Arlington-Green Isle, Jordan, LeCenter, Mankato Loyola, Montgomery, and New Prague.

Member schools of the Minnesota River Conference have won numerous state titles in various sports. That includes the Belle Plaine girls winning the 2015 Class A State Track and Field Championship, Montgomery-Lonsdale winning the 1979 (girls) and 1984 (boys) state XC titles, and the Mayer-Lutheran girls winning the 2003 State track and field title.

Individual state champions for the conference include:

There is clearly a storied history of excellence in the Minnesota River Conference. It's a history that will have the rest of the 2023 outdoor season and all of the next school year to add to.

The bright side of things is that all member schools will switch to different conferences in Minnesota and will increase the competition in those conferences.
