The cross country season is off to a hot start and the bulk of the schedule is here with August in the rearview mirror and the September part of the season on the way. It was another great week of cross country in Minnesota with meets all over the state producing fast times, historic results, and more!
Here we look at the Minnesota Boy's Runner of the Week Nominees for Week 2 of the cross country season.
Polling starts on Monday at 7 am and ends on Saturday at 7 pm.
Sam Scott made some noise in his season debut at the St. Olaf High School Showcase where he ran the Minnesota #1 time of 15:16.50, won his second St. Olaf title, and set a new St. Olaf HS Showcase meet record 5K time. Scott currently ranks #25 nationally this season for the 5K.
Anderson continued his hot start to the season at the Maple Grove Crimson Twilight where he won his second straight meet of the season with another sub 16-minute 5K. He ran a time of 15:44.10 for the third fastest time of his HS XC career. Anderson led the Perham boys to a third-place team finish at the meet only behind Wayzata and Minnetonka.
Santiago won his second straight race of the season at the Anoka ABC Early Bird Invite where he won with a time of 15:42.10 and led a Blaine boys to a narrow meet victory over Andover. This was a brand new PR for Santiago lowering his 5K PR by 17 seconds and running under 16 minutes for just the second time.
The top 5K returner in Minnesota from 2022 made his 2023 season debut at the Rosemount Irish Invitational where he finished first overall in the varsity 2-mile race with a time of 9:41.58. His time of 9:41.58 ranks #1 in Minnesota this season and #32 nationally in the 2-mile.
The Minneapolis Washburn sophomore finished 22nd at the St. Olaf High School Showcase with a big PR of 16:56. Guertin's previous best 5K time was 19:19.80 from the 2021 Nike Heartland Regional. Finished as the 5th sophomore at St. Olaf and owns the fourth biggest 5K differential in Minnesota from 2022 to 2023.
