Poll: Minnesota Girls Runner of the Week (Aug. 27- Sept. 2)

The cross country season is off to a hot start and the bulk of the schedule is here with August in the rearview mirror and the September part of the season on the way. It was another great week of cross country in Minnesota with meets all over the state producing fast times, historic results, and more!

Here we look at the Minnesota Girl's Runner of the Week Nominees for Week 2 of the cross country season. 

Polling starts on Monday at 7 am and ends on Saturday at 7 pm.

Girls Runner of the Week Nominees

Caitlyn Osanai (Robbinsdale Armstrong)

Osanai ran in her first meet of the season at the St. Olaf High School Showcase where she won the meet with a time of 18:55. Osanai won the meet by 13 seconds over Ella Voit. In 2022 Osanai finished 12th at this meet and ran over a minute faster in 2023. 

Isabel Mahoney (Monticello)

Mahoney made her season debut at the Princeton Invitational where she won the race with a new PR of 18:11.80, winning the title by 28 seconds. This was a 23-second PR for Mahoney and her time of 18:11.80 is currently the third fastest time in Minnesota this season. 

Avery Marasco-Johnson (Minnetonka)

Minnetonka junior Marasco-Johnson won the Maple Grove Crimson Twilight over some of Minnesota's best runners with a time of 18:27.80. This was a new PR of Marasco-Johnson over her previous PR of 18:38.30 on a much faster Heartland course last year. This was the first varsity win of her high school XC career. 

Jazleen Malherek-Osorio (Wayzata)

A rising star in Minnesota, Wayzata sophomore Malherek-Osorio led the Wayzata girls to the team title at the Maple Grove Crimson Twilight by finishing 2nd overall with a new PR of 18:39.30. Wayzata won the meet over Minnetonka, Perham, and Centennial. This was a 15 second PR for Jazleen. 

Ella Voit (St. Cloud Cathedral)

St. Cloud Cathedral senior Ella Voit finished 2nd overall at the St. Olaf High School Showcase with a time of 19:08.20 to finish just 13 seconds behind the winner. Voit led the Cathedral girls to the team title with 108 points to Northfield's 128 points.
