Girls Runner of the Week Nominees
Annika Midness (Minneapolis Southwest)
A sophomore for Minneapolis Southwest, Midness came away with the first victory of her cross country career at the Minneapolis City Conference Championships with a time of 19:48.5. Midness also led the Southwest girls to a perfect score of 15 points at the meet.
Allyson Sample (Marshall)
Sample dominated at the Mankato East Invitational where she PR'd for the second week in a row to the tune of an 18:29.2 time, winning the meet by 36 seconds. Sample had set a new PR of 18:32.70 just last week at the Alexandria Lions Meet of Champions. This was her 2nd win of 2023, and her third overall for cross country.
Caitlyn Osanai (Robbinsdale Armstrong)
The same week she announced her commitment to the University of Minnesota, Osanai won her second straight Northwest Suburban Conference title with a time of 18:29.5. Osanai was the only runner to break 19 seconds and this is her third major victory of the season.
Evie Malec (Minnetonka)
Minnetonka freshman Evie Malec showed that she will be a force to be reckoned with in the years to come after winning the Lake Conference Championships with a time of 17:49.4, winning by 26 seconds over Sydney Drevlow. This was a four second PR for Malec and her second consecutive race under 18-minutes.
Mia Hoffmann (Bemidji)
Bemidjis Mia Hoffmann continued her torrid pace this fall at the Perham Yellow Jacket Harrier Classic where she won her fifth straight race of the season with a time of 17:47.1. Hoffmann is the only girls runner in Minnesota this season to run under 18-minutes for the 5K three times. She still ranks as the #1 runner in Minnesota this season.
Norah Hushagen (Forest Lake)
Hushagen showed again that she might be the girl to beat in Class AAA this season, running a time of 17:31.70 at the Princeton Tiger Invitational. Hushagen has now run the #2 and #3 times overall this season in Minnesota. She currently ranks #77 nationally for the 5K this season.
