A four-time Section 6AA champion (all of which are among the eleven fastest 4k times in this list), Wayzata's Anna French may be the most accomplished Minnesota high school athlete who never won an individual state championship in either track or cross country. Owner of the second-fastest 4K career best in our database (13:38), and one of the fastest runner-up finishes ever at the State Championships (13:57), French was the top runner on what might be the best girls cross country squad in Minnesota history. In addition to helping Wayzata win three consecutive state championships, her 8th-place finish at the Nike Cross Nationals in 2013 helped Wayzata claim the National Championship over New York's Fayetteville-Manlius High School, the only time FM hasn't won NXN since 2007. French went on to compete for the University of West Virginia, but after a successful freshman year of cross country, issues with stress fractures and a torn labrum in her hip kept her from competing for over a year. Now injury free again, French is currently running cross country at Montana State where she is one of their top runners.
Anna French is just one of the many, many legends that have come out of the famous Section of Death. Check out the rest of the top 2000 performances since 1999!
