Perhaps it is not as rare as we might think it is, but it certainly isn't every day that not only does one school sweep both the boys and girls State competitions in both classes, but then have all four of those squads enter the following season as (on paper) strong favorites to defend. But that is the case with Wayzata in Class AA and Perham in Class A. Based on a virtual meet scoring of the 2017 season bests of every returning runner in the state, all four of those squads enter the year with at least 45 points to cushion them from the squad behind them. But, of course, who knows how things will really play out? Minnesota's first official (non-time-trial) competition will take place tomorrow, and the outlook on the season could change a lot. Can all four teams defend their titles? We'll find out in November!
