MSHSL Class AA State Meet

Class AA Girl's Race

The sun is shining, the temps are brisk but good for runners and spectators alike and the meet is on.  The girl's race started with a start, a stop and a start after the official recognized an "unfair start" and stopped the race almost immediately after starting it.  After a few minutes the runners were back on the starting line and the gun went off and the race was on.  Alexandria's Megan and Bethany Hasz held the lead at the 1600 meter mark and finished 1-2 as they crossed the finish line, followed by Jenna Truedson from Bemidji in third.

Megan and Bethany are sophomores who have had phenomenal seasons this year, both breaking the 14 minute mark earlier this season.  They've come a long way since I first saw them race at Little Falls in 7th grade where they held hands as they crossed the finish line.  Jenna is a junior and ran a 14:00.0 earlier this season.  They entered the race ranked 2, 3, and 4 respectively behind Wayzata's Anna French.

Wayzata's girls were unbeatable, finishing in first with an impressive 37 points.  The fact that they also had all seven runners finish within 6 seconds of each other gives a glimpse into what they might be able to do at NXN!  East Ridge took second place with 134 points, followed by Lakeville South in third with 165 points.

Bethany Hasz, Alexandria - Class AA Girls Champion with a time of 13:53.1

Megan Hasz, Alexandria - state runner up with a time of 14:13.9.

Jenna Truedson, Bemidji - state third place with a time of 14:19.2.

Class AA Boy's Race

Obsa Ali, Richfield struggled with his shoes during the section meet, stopping to retie them at least once during the race.  Sometimes history repeats itself - Ali completed the Class AA 5k race with one shoe, but that didn't stop him from crossing the line first.  With about 400 meters remaining in the race he had to kick it off and sprint to the finish - Connor Olson, Wayzata, was just 2 seconds behind him so there was no time to retie it.  When he crossed the finish line and gathered his shoe, he showed off the kick with the silver duck tape wrapped around it.  Isaiah Barlow, Hutchinson, posted a third place finish in today's meet.

Wayzata posted the double team win taking first place with a total of 53 points.  However, Edina gave them a run for their money, posting a second place finish wiht 66 points and the boys from Stillwater rounded out the podium, posting 99 points for a third place finish.

Obsa Ali, Richfield, state champion with a time of 15:15.2.

Connor Olson, Wayzata - state runner-up with a time of 15:17.4.

Isaiah Barlow, Hutchinson, worked to hold down third place with a time of 15:32.7.
