Both the Class A and Class AA races in the girls 1600m had dramatic finishes in 2017, with Farmington's Anna Fenske coming from behind to narrowly edge Edina's Emily Kompelien, while Math & Science Academy's Tierney Wolfgram barely held on to her own once-huge lead over Byron's Taylor Kreitinger. But in light of what happened in cross country last fall with Washburn's Emily Covert growing into a national elite, the return of Grace Ping and the emergence of her sister Lauren Ping, 2018 could shape up to be even far more dramatic.
