Northern Minnesota & Farmington's First Meet Highlights Day

PREVIEW

Chub Lake Invitational (Time Trial)

Location: Chub Lake Park, Carlton

Weather: Sunny, mid 60s, with a mild breeze

BOYS

Virtual Meet Projection: Cloquet (33 points), Cromwell-Wright (58 points), Esko (87 points), Proctor (94 points)

Top Individuals: Aidan Ripp (Cloquet, 16:25), Wyatt Rauvola (Cromwell-Wright, 16:27), Jacob Gontjes (17:03)

The Skinny: Though not an official meet, many northern schools attend this unofficial time trial. Aidan Ripp of Cloquet will be the individual to beat, as his 16:25 PB is the clear standout time. Wyatt Rauvola, a state qualifier in both cross country and track, has run as fast as 16:27, though hasn't cracked 17:00 any other time yet in his career, so expect him and Jacob Gontjes to be chasing Ripp. Led by Ripp, the Cloquet boys also appear to be the strongest team in attendance.

GIRLS

Virtual Meet Projection: Proctor (30 points), Cloquet (55 points)

Top Individuals: Lauren Cawcutt (Cloquet, 19:56), Ashlee Siegle (Marshall School, 19:56), Sydney Binsfield (Proctor, 20:03)

The Skinny: Both Lauren Cawcutt and Ashlee Siegle hold nearly identical 19:56 season bests from 2017, and both of those times were ran on the State meet course. That being said, Siegle ran faster than Cawcutt at the same meet three times prior to State, so she might have a slight edge, though it very well could be a dead heat. However, neither of these athlete's teams looks strongest on paper, as Proctor's overall depth puts them ahead in the virtual meet. They will rely on strong performances from sisters Sydney and Morgan Binsfield.
