BOYS RECAP: White Bear Lake took the team title in the annual 2-mile time trial meet averaging 10:13 in their top five. Various lineups were in play on Friday but several big names raced with Saint Paul Highland Park senior Oliver Paleen taking the win in 9:40. Mackinon Mokoro was second in 9:47. Eden Prairie who held out no. 1 Jake Derouin, was second in a team average 10:18. Minnetonka led by senior Max Lauerman (9:57, 6th) was third with a team average of 10:23.

The Ponies averaged 11:50 led by individual winner junior Analee Weaver in 11:14 and placing four in the top ten. Minnetonka's top three went 7-8-9 overall, led by sophomore Kate Leblanc in 11:54. FULL MEET RESULTS

BOYS RECAP: Monticello pulled out a ten point team win over second place Mound-Westonka with running just five in the varsity meet. All five scored in the top 19 to take the win. Benilde-Saint Margaret senior Peter Lynch took the win in 16:32.7 while Rockford senior Nels Trandahl edged Maple Lake senior Jeffrey Henrikson for second as both dipped under 17 minutes.

SCORES: Monticello (74), Mound-Westonka (84), Benilde-Saint Margaret (90)

GIRLS RECAP: Buffalo took the team victory while Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted senior Gracie Mallak edged Mound-Westonka freshman Laura Sunnorborg for the individual title. Buffalo put their top five in the top 17 and second place H-W-W nor third place Maple Lake could match that level in their fifth spot. Mallak nearly broke 19 minutes in her season opener with a 19:02.5 while Sunnorborg was just behind in 19:08.0.

SCORES: Buffalo (60), Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted (76), Maple Lake (77)

BOYS RECAP: Greenway/Nashwauk-Keewatin juniors Geno Uhrbom and Spencer Engel went 1-2 to lead GNK to the team win at Brainerd. Uhrbom ran virtually solo for the win, going 16:39.6, not an especially impressive time considering he went under 16:30 nine times last season (sub 16, five times). Yet, considering he won by almost 90 seconds, its a pretty solid start to the year the reigning class A triple crown champ (1600/3200/XC state winner). His team was also solid in posting head to head wins at every scoring position over second place Alexandria who was led senior Dane Galloway who was third in 18:11.3.

SCORES: GNK (35), Alexandria (60), Brainerd (62)

GIRLS RECAP: Alexandria completed an incredible sweep with their varsity win as the Cardinals went 1-7 in all three levels of girls races (MS, JV and Varsity) on Friday. Senior Caitlyn Bright led Alexandria with a 21:02.5 but the team had just a 13 second split back to no. 5 Aleah Miller in fifth place and overall just 58 seconds from Bright to their seventh runner at 22:00 flat. That kind of depth certainly keeps Alexandria in class A state meet discussions. Second place Saint Cloud Tech was led by eighth place finisher Wren Scott-Lumbar in 22:30.1.

SCORES: Alexandria (15), St Cloud Tech (65), Brainerd (76)

FULL MEET RESULTS

BOYS RECAP: Minnesota eyes turned to Marshfield as a pair of ranked teams crossed the border for racing in a different venue. As expected Stillwater and Wayzata were the cream of the crop in field, going 1-2 in the team standings and posting very impressive results. Stillwater had all five in the top 19 and averaged a solid 16:50 with a 42 second split, led by junior Ethan Vargas who was fifth in 16:36.1 followed closely by junior Aiden Kilibarda in sixth with a 16:37.5. Wayzata was not far back in second with skinny 36 second split and 17:01 average. The Trojans were led by senior Shuayb Hussein in 16:41.8. As expected both teams looked strong and got off to a quality start in 2019.
