Lauren Ping Wins Arizona Gatorade XC POY Award

Former Cotter standout and current Desert Vista runner Lauren Ping was named as the 2020 Arizona Gatorade XC Player of the Year this past week. The sophomore raced to the Division 1 individual state championship this past season with a time of 17:13.4. Arizona's returning Gatorade Girls Cross Country Player of the Year, Ping also won the Chandler Invitational and the Phoenix Classic Showdown at Sundown. She took second at the Desert Twilight Festival and sixth at the AAU National Championships. Arizona's returning Gatorade Girls Cross Country Player of the Year, Ping also won the Chandler Invitational and the Phoenix Classic Showdown at Sundown. While a student at Cotter High School in Winona, Minnesota; Ping was a standout runner during her 7th and 9th grade seasons in Minnesota. Ping finished as the Class A State Champion in the 3200m both seasons and finished as the runner-up in the 1600m both years behind her sister Grace Ping. In her seventh-grade year, she finished as the runner-up at the state cross country meet behind Tierney Wolfgram and in her eighth-grade year, she also finished runner-up behind her sister.

Since transferring to Desert Vista; Lauren, Grace, and former Saint Michael-Albertville standout Katie Sigerud have led their team to the 2020 AIA State Cross Country Championships title, and the Ping sisters also led their team to the 2019 State Cross Country title.

Individually, Lauren Ping has won two individual AIA State Cross Country titles, and this track season she has the second-fastest 1600m time nationally.
