Every week our current and former MSHSL athletes do noteworthy things that aren't always highlighted or known about. This new weekly article will highlight those athletes that have done notable things on the track, outside of school, on the roads, and anywhere in between. We have so many amazing current and former athletes, and we'd love to highlight every single one if we could.

Emily Covert
Minneapolis Washburn
University of Colorado
Covert made her long-awaited collegiate debut this month in track and field by running the 1500m at the Jack Christiansen Invitational. She finished in third place with a time of 4:31.91. This was her first time since 2016 running an official 1500m and her new time of 4:31.91 was a 13 second personal best.
She also ran the 5k at the GCU Invitational running a 16:31.63, which is an all-around new personal best for her.

Tierney Wolfgram
Woodbury High School
University of Nevada
Wolfgram made her collegiate debut and did what she normally does, dominate the field. She ran in the 5000m at the Fresno St. Invitational and ended up with a time of 16:44.15, 40 seconds ahead of the competition.

Katie Lambrecht
Byron High School
Class of 2021
Katie broke the Byron school record in the 400m at the Byron varsity meet #3 with a time of 58.97. This broke the longtime school record of 60.10 set by Judy Hawley in 1978.

Niamya Holloway
Eden Prairie High School
Class of 2022
Nia Holloway has reached new heights in the high jump with a new PR of 5-8. This is the top jump in the state so far this season and makes her the favorite at state.
Maia Peterson
Stewartville High School
Class of 2021
Maia Peterson like Katie Lambrecht also broke her school recod at the Byron Varsity Meet #3. She ran a new PR of 59.88 to break the school record.
Ava Cinnamo, Shay Payne, Jenna Johnson, and Kenzie Jacobson
Rosemount High School
Cinnamo, Payne, Johnson, and Jacobsen combined to break the school record in the 4x200. They ran a time of 1:43.40 which puts them as the best in the state by far this season.

Jake Kubiatowicz
North Saint Paul High School
Class of 2017
One of the great throwers in state history will be transferring from the University of Pennsylvania and come home to the University of Minnesota to finish his collegiate career. The former North Saint Paul standout won two state title in high school, ranks 16th all-time in the shot put, and 2nd all-time in the discus. He got ever so close to breaking Karl Erickson's state record in the discus.

Fernando Benitez
Hamline University
White Bear Lake High School
Fernando set a huge personal best in the 5000m with a time of 14:35.63 at the Hamline Showcase. This is his first time running a sub 15 minute 5k, as his old personal best was 15:11.54 from earlier in the season.
