Week in Review: Diving Into This Weeks Minnesota XC Results

Its been another full week of cross country in Minnesota this week with many big meets all around the state from the STMA Invite, to the Fairmont I-90 Invite, and all the way north to the Perham Harrier Invite!

Here we look at some of the biggest moments in Minnesota cross country this week from fantastic team battles, historic 5K times, and even a season debut for a state champion.

Nechanicky Runs 16:47 at STMA Invite

Abbey Nechanicky dominated one again this season at the STMA Invite where she ran a time of 16:47.40, becoming just the 4th girl to run under 17:00 after Analee Weaver, Tierney Wolfgram, and Emily Covert. This is the 2nd fastest time by a Minnesota girl all-time and the 4th fastest in the nation this season so far.

Lakeville North Narrowly Beats Rosemount at Ev Berg Invitational

The #1 ranked Lakeville North boys and #3 ranked Rosemount boys went head-to-head at the 2022 Ev Berg Invitational in Owatonna where the Lakeville boys came out with a narrow win with a score of 31-33 over Rosemount. 

The Lakeville boys were led by a first-place finish from Andrew Casey and a second-place finish from Bryce Stachewicz. Casey set a new PR of 15:16.95 and Stachewicz ran under 16:00 for the first time with his time of 15:36.76.

Both the Lakeville North and Rosemount boys ran the top two scoring average times in Minnesota this season with 5K averages of 15:48 (Lakeville) and 15:52 (Rosemount).

Overall, this was the fastest Ev Berg Invite of all-time with Andrew Casey, Bryce Stachewicz, Will Harder, and Ryan Mulrooney all running top-ten times all-time for the meet.


Jade Rypkema Runs 17:16 at Perham

Racing for only the third time this season, Jade Rypkema showed that she is a runner to reckon with this season in Minnesota by running a new 5K PR of 17:16.57 at the Perham Harrier Classic. This was a big PR for Rypkema whose previous PR was 17:31.50 from this years Moorhead Dragon Twilight.

This is the 2nd fastest girl's 5K time in Minnesota this fall, only behind Nechanicky. It is also the new top time in Class A this fall over Amanda Overgaauw. 

Rypkema now owns the 15th fastest 5k time by a Minnesota girl all-time with her time of 17:16.57. To break into the top ten, she would have to run under 17:10. 

Alden Keller Makes Season Debut

The preseason #1 individual in the Class AA coaches rankings was the defending state champion for his class in Brecks Alden Keller. Keller though has been injured but has finally made his season debut at the Litchfield Invitational.

Keller ran a time of 16:15.40 to finish in third place behind Salvador Wirth and his teammate Harris Gulbransen. It was a solid season debut for Keller, but a far cry from his PR of 15:12.20. 

Overgaauw and Schmitz Extend Win Streaks

Both Amanda Overgaauw and Isabelle Schmitz extended their win streaks that go back to last year this week. Overgaauw extended her win streak to 6 straight wins on the season and 17 straight wins overall going back to September 3rd, 2021. 

Schmitz won her 6th straight meet of the year at the Litchfield invite and extended her in-state win streak to 16 meets going back to September 2nd, 2021. Her only loss last year was at the Eastbay Midwest Regional in Kenosha, WI.
