One might have thought that Abbey Nechanicky had achieved just about everything she could so far for her senior cross country season. She has the St. Olaf High School Showcase title, won the Roy Griak title in dominant fashion, and has run the fastest times of her career.

So of course she had to go and become the 4th Minnesota girl to run a sub 17-minute 5k!
Nechanicky dominated one again this season at the STMA Invite where she ran a time of 16:47.40, becoming just the 4th girl to run under 17:00 after Analee Weaver, Tierney Wolfgram, and Emily Covert.
Rank | Name | Time | Meet (Date) |
1 | 16:42.60 | Forest Lake SEC Tri (10/1/20)
2 | 16:47.40 | STMA Invite (10/3/22)
3 | 16:48.67 | NXR Heartland (11/12/17)

Nechanicky apart from becoming just the 4th girl to run sub 17 minutes is just the 2nd girl to do it in Minnesota behind Analee Weaver. Wolfgram and Covert both did it on a fast Heartland course in South Dakota.
Nechanicky has now moved to 4th nationally in the 5K this fall, and 3rd among all girls in her class (as of this writing).
