Polls: Minnesota Boys XC Runner of the Year (Round 2)

Round 2: Andrew Casey (8) vs. Brandon Kampsen (5)

---

Andrew Casey:

One of only two teams to beat the Wayzata boys and the only one to do it twice was Andrew Casey and the Lakeville North boys. The Lakeville North boys won the St. Olaf High School Showcase and finished as the runner-up in the Roy Griak boys Gold race ahead of Wayzata and the rest of the Minnesota boys teams.

The Lakeville North boys won every meet against Minnesota competition up until the state meet where they finished 3rd overall behind Wayzata and Rosemount, both teams who they beat on multiple occasions. Overall they won 6 meets in Minnesota and in every meet their #1 runner was Andrew Casey.

Casey won five meets this season that included the prestigious Lakeville AppleJack Invitational, the Owatonna Ev Berg Invitational, and both the South Suburban Conference and Section 1AAA titles. Casey set a new 5K PR of 15:16.95 that ranked #8 in Minnesota this season.

Brandon Kampsen:

The only other undefeated runner in Minnesota this season other than Abbey Nechanicky was Brandon Kampsen of Sauk Centre. Kampsen went undefeated across 11 races from the Brainerd Run for the Melon all the way to his Class A state title at the MSHSL State Cross Country Championships.

Kampsen improved upon his overall PR going from 16:25.93 last year and running a lifetime best of 15:49.44 at the state meet to beat Henry Karelitz by 6 seconds for his first state title.

Overall, Kampsen ran the 3rd fastest time in Class A this season and was one of just 4 boys to break 16 minutes for his Class. Of all the Minnesota boys runners this season, Kampsen won the most races with 11 wins followed by Emmett Gerres with 10 wins.
