A quick look at the 2023 Minnesota boys' outdoor track and field rankings will show almost a dozen schools represented by individuals who lead the state in their respective events.
Minnetonka is not one of those schools at the moment.
Look a little deeper though a trio of sprinters from Minnetonka standout among the early stars of the season and a tri that could potentially wreak havoc on their conference, section, and the state of Minnesota during championship season next month.
That trio consists of Tobias Williams, Cosmo Guion, and Will Hairston.
Those three sprinters from Minnetonka are three of the six runners in Minnesota this season to run under 11 seconds in the 100m and two of eight runners under 23 seconds in the 200m.
2023 Minnesota Ranks and Times
Runner | 100m Time | State Ranking (100m) | 200m Time | State Ranking (200m) |
10.78 | 2nd | 22.58 | 2nd | |
10.99 | 6th | 22.84 | 6th | |
10.97 | T-4th | 23.09 | T-13th |
All three boys set their season-best times at their only meet of the season in a dual between Minnetonka and Wayzata. All three boys finished as the top three finishers in the 100m and 200m at the meet.
Incredibly for all three boys, this was their first time running sub 11 in the 100m ever.
On top of their remarkable sprint performances, Tobias Williams also won the long jump at the meet and Cosmo Guion finished 3rd in the triple jump.
This definitely seems like a trio of sprinters that could lead Minnetonka to great team success along with their deep group of distance runners.
