Well, that didn't take long...
After a 2022 season in which four state records were broken, it only took three weeks into the 2023 season for two new state records to be set, and both by the same athlete.
Saint Charles sophomore Tyler Gunnarson broke the Minnesota state records for the 100m and 400m wheelchair events, breaking recors set by his older brother Peyton Gunnarson.
At the Plainview-Elgin-Millville Winged Foot Inviational, Gunnarson was the only wheelchair athlete to compete but set new PRs in the 100m with a time of 15.90 and in the 400m with a time of 1:02.07. This beats his brother's old records of 16.06 and 1:02.97.

Last year, four outdoor track and field state records were broken, but the first of those wasn't broken until May 10th, 2022 by Ava Cinnamo with a new state triple jump record.
This year it took only about three weeks into the season, and really only our first week of the outdoor season.
