Poll: Minnesota Boys Runner of the Week (September 3-9)

The cross country season is off to a hot start and last week was the best yet with big meets all over the state, historic times, and more! It will only get better with the Roy Griak Invitational on the horizon where the best Minnesota has to offer will compete against some of the best of the best nationally. 

Here we look at the Minnesota Boy's Runner of the Week Nominees for Week 3 of the cross country season. 

Polling starts on Monday at 7 am and ends on Saturday at 7 pm.

Boys Runner of the Week Nominees

Lev Dougherty (Heritage Christian Academy)

With the graduation of senior Jack Hoppe, Dougherty has taken over the the #1 for Heritage Christian Academy, and his sophomore season is off to a hot start. So far he has won two races and now has a 2nd place finish at the Rockford Rocket Run Invitational where he PR'd by 33 seconds to finish with a time of 15:58.5. Dougherty lef the Heritage boys to a dominant win over Orono and Delano. 

Sam Scott (Minneapolis Southwest)

Scott has shown so far that he is the best boys runner in Minnesota this year with back-to-back wins and running times of 15:16.50 (St. Oalf) and now 15:03.09 at the Bauman/Rovn Invitational. Scott's time of 15:03.09 is a 5-second PR for Scott and is the #2 time all-time on a tough Gale Woods Farm course. 

Cade Sanvik (Osseo)

Sanvik dominated at the Dewey Minnaert Invitational to the tune of a 1st place finish and a brand new PR of 15:16.49. Sanvik won the meet by 29 seconds and PR'd by 21 seconds. Sanvik also broke the Osseo school record which had previously been held by Steve Leuer who ran a time of 15:33.80 in 1994. 

Bjorn Anderson (Perham)

Anderson continued his strong season at the Moorhead Dragon Twilight Invitational where he ran the Minnesota #2 time of 15:10.70 for his third consecutive win on the season and his third straight sub 16-minute 5K. Anderson led the Perham boys to a meet victory also with 50 points. 

Austin Liebl (Moorhead)

Austin Liebl saved his best for the Moorhead Dragon Twilight Invitational where he ran his first ever sub 16-minute 5K, and cleared that by a large margin. Liebl PR'd by 40 seconds en-route to a 3rd place finish at the meet where he also led the Moorhead boys to a 2nd place team finish.
