Poll: Minnesota Girls Runner of the Week (October 1-7)

As we inch towards Championship season for the Minnesota cross country season, things are heating up as temperatures are dropping, time are getting lower, and the elite in Minnesota gear up as major titles are on the line. It was a big week with huge performances at Owatonna, STMA, Chaska, and Victoria highlighting a busy week in Minnesota. 

Here we look at the Minnesota Girl's Runner of the Week Nominees for Week 6 of the cross country season. 

Polling starts on Monday at 7 am and ends on Saturday at 7 pm.

Girls Runner of the Week Nominees

Abigail Tri (Rochester John Marshall)

A highly touted freshman at Rochester John Marshall, Tri proved she is a runner to watch in the near future at the Owatonna Ev Berg Invitational where she ran a time of 18:17.78 to win the girl's varsity race by ten seconds. Overall Tri ranks #3 in the 5K for all Minnesota freshmen girls runners. 

Marissa Long (Chanhassen)

Long won the Chaska Victoria Lions Invitational for the second year in a row where she finished with a time of 18:47.57, winning by 23 seconds. This was Long's third win of the season at the 5K distance. Her season-best time of 18:11 ranks #8 overall in Minnesota this season. 

Evie Malec (Minnetonka)

Minnesota's top-ranked freshman runner this season and one of the best in the nation, Malec ran a time of 17:56.20 at the STMA Invite where she won by 22 seconds. Malec is just one of five MN girls runners this season to run under 18 minutes and ranks as the #13 freshman girl nationally this season. 

Audrey Brownell (Staples-Motley)

A sophomore at Staples-Motley, Brownell secured arguably the biggest win of her high school career at the Alexandria Lions Meet of Champions where she finished 1st overall with a time of 18:14.30. Brownell currently ranks as the #1 sophomore girl in Minnesota and #7 overall in Minnesota. 

Isabelle Schmitz (Hutchinson)

Schmitz continued her torrid pace this season at the Litchfield Invite where she won with a time of 18:11.70 which is her 3rd fastest 5K time this season. Schmitz won the meet by 33 seconds. Schmitz has now won five races on the season and is one of five Minnesota girls to run under 18 minutes this season.
