What schools did you consider for your post-high school plans?

Ultimately there were a lot of schools I originally considered post high school. There are a lot of great schools out there, but at the end of the day it came down to Minnesota and Tulsa which was a very tough decision.

What ultimately led you to commit to university of Minnesota-Twin Cities?

The team atmosphere at the University of Minnesota. They have a great group of guys at the U of M. The coaching staff also was patient through the entire process. I enjoyed the down to earth coaching staff because at the end of the day you can only have so many "sunshine and rainbow" conversations. Being close to family is something that became more and more important to me throughout the process. The school is close, highly accredited, and I could see myself being a Gopher.

Has Coach Plasencia given you any indications of what event or events you might be specializing in as a collegiate athlete?

Wherever I can help the team the most. If at the end of the day I have to run the 110 high hurdles, I'll try and do my best in that event. Based on the realistic nature of the sport I will most likely be running 5k to 10k.

Have you identified a major or area of study?

Business marketing major. The creative process plus advertising and promotions really interests me in terms of career field.

What is your favorite HS memory as it relates to cross country and track?

It's hard to really pin point any specific moment that sticks out above the rest. I've been fortunate to have such amazing teammates, friends, and coaches. I've been able to make great memories with the wonderful people I've met through the sport. So I'll remember the people more than anything.

What goals do you have for your remaining high school track season?

In this sport you're always hungry to prove yourself. I just want to have a healthy track season and set myself up for taking the next step. It's all about trusting the process and I would like another state championship if possible. I understand  the talent level in Minnesota is hard to match, so if it doesn't go my way I'll just be right back to the grindstone.

What are your goals for your collegiate career?

My main goal is to try and be a difference maker for Coach Plasencia and the U of M team.  Whether it being a scorer in a big meet or just supporting my teammates I plan to trust the process and what lies ahead. I look forward to trying to prove something at the next level and I'm excited to be a part of such a great program.

What advice would you pass on to an athlete trying to make their college decision?

Enjoy the process. There is no need to stress over nothing. There are lots of schools and programs that can fit for you. It's all on finding priorities that suit you best.
