Poll: Minnesota Male Cross Country Runner of the Week

It was another full week for cross country in Minnesota last week with meets going on all around the state, times getting faster and faster, and with championship season on the horizon, things will just get better and better. 

Here we look at those five chosen runners to see what merited their inclusion in this week's poll for Minnesota male runner of the week. 

Each week of the season you will have the chance to vote for a male and female runner of the week, based on the previous week's meet results.

So without further ado, here are this week's nominees for the Minnesota male cross country runner of the week for September 25 - October 1.

Emmett Gerres won his fifth straight meet of the season with his fifth straight performance under 16:00 on the season. Gerres beat out Cade Sanvik by 33 seconds to win the Osseo Invitational. Gerres has the most 5K times under 16:00 on the season with 5 races, more than the 4 Breker, Scott and Casey have. 

Owen Janiszeski ran a massive PR at the Saint James Invite to win his first meet of the season with a time of 15:56.90. This was a 38 second PR for Janiszeski. He won the meet by 15 seconds over Josiah Demaris and helped lead the Luverne boys to their 3rd team win of the season. 

David Obst has run an odd season this fall with a 3200m race, a short course at Mayo, and now two 5Ks each a month apart. Obst made the most of the October 1st race at the Steve Johnson/Dan Huston Invitational where he finished 2nd overall with a time of 16:00.56. That was a 1 minute and 25 second PR for Obst. 

Isaiah Anderson ran a 1 second PR at the Mankato West Invitational to secure his first 5K victory of the season and his 2nd straight Mankato West title. Anderson ranks 13th in Class AA overall this season with his time of 16:02.17. Anderson led the Mankato East boys to a team win at the meet over their Southeastern Minnesota rival. 

Adam Lueth led the Bloomington Jefferson boys at the Steve Johnson/Dan Huston Invitational with a 5th place finish individually with a time of 15:40.15 which was a 14-second PR for Lueth. Overall, the Bloomington Jefferson boys finished 5th overall against some of the best teams in the midwest. The Bloomington Jefferson boys now rank 5th overall in Minnesota in the overall rankings.
