Evie Malec Runs Historic Mile Time at Brooks PR Invitational

She was already one of the fastest 8th-graders in state history ranking #2 in the 1600m for Minnesota 8th-grader girls all-time, but now she is just one of the fastest runners...period.

At the 2023 Brooks PR Invitational, Minnetonka 8th-grader Evie Malec ran in the junior high girl's 1-mile run, finishing 2nd overall with a time of 4:50.49 which is one of the fastest times in state history.

With her time of 4:50.49, Malec ranks #4 on the Minnesota girl all-time 1-Mile rankings, #9 in the 1600m all-time (4:48.60 converted), and holds the #1 time all-time by a Minnesota 8th-grader girl.

In the race, Malec sat in the top three positions in the race the whole time. In the last 200 meters, Malec and Sheppard went step for step before Sheppard got a step on Malec on the last straight. Sheppard was also the 2022 champion in this race.

Malec not only ranks as the top 8th-grade 1600m in state history, ahead of Lauren Ping (4:50.64), but as one of the top 1600m runners of all-time.

As an eight-grader, Malec is now one of the fastest 1600m/mile runners in Minnestoa state history. She also ranks #5 all-time on the 8th-grade 800m list.
