After a second straight Minnesota Class A State Team Championship, Perham has been named the Division II National Champions for a second straight season.

In the deepest DII State Meet in the nation, Perham outlasted three top 25 nationally-ranked teams to win with 52-points, 59-points ahead of DII US No. 7 Mounds Park HS. “It is the coolest thing!" Head Coach Jeff Morris said. “I am really surprised. The weekend was so awesome and now this is just icing on cake. Just a testament to captains and all their leadership this summer, that is where is starts. (Keeghan, Billy, Chris, Jayden and Ben).”

State XC: Girls third place at Class A championships Robert Williams Nov 03, 2013

NORTHFIELD — The Perham girls cross country team improved on a seventh place finish in 2012 placing third at this year’s Minnesota Class A state cross country meet at St. Olaf.

The result is the best finish for Perham since back-to-back runners-up finishes in 2008-09. (via Perham Focus)

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – Perham’s Keeghan Hurley won the Minnesota Class 1A individual cross country title in ideal weather conditions and led the Yellowjackets to their second straight – and fifth overall – state championship in their 12th consecutive appearance at St. Olaf.

Hurley sixth, Perham Boys seventh, Girls 35th at Griak Gold races Robert Williams Oct 02, 2013

FALCON HEIGHTS — Consistent rainfall made a harrowing run all the more perilous at this year’s Roy Griak Invitational, a showcase of the best of the best in cross country from high school to the Division I college level from multiple states and Canada.

Both Perham teams ran in the Gold High School races, which are filled with elite teams, 51 in the boys’ field, 50 in the girls. Wayzata took home the team titles in both races.

The Perham boys matched last year’s best-ever result in the Larry Zirgibel Gold race finishing in seventh place.

The girls placed 35th in the Gary Wilson Gold race, one of their best finishes since the 2009-10 state runner-up team. That team finished 14th with current team members contributing.

The Perham boys cross country team continued a season on firsts after winning the Lucky Lindy Invitational in Little Falls defeating ranked teams from Class 1A and 2A.

Keeghan Hurley won his third individual title in three races this year finishing just two seconds off the course record running a 15:36. Billy Beseman placed 3rd in 16:10, Jayden Cullen fourth in 16:24, Ben Sullivan 16th in 16:56, Chris Knutson 33rd in 17:19, Kanyon Edvall 39th in 17:35 and freshman Jacob Dickerson 47th in 17:55.

Jackets run away with Wadena titles Robert Williams Sep 08, 2013

WADENA — Both Perham Cross Country teams defended their titles at the Johanna Olson Wadena-Deer Creek meet in two dominating team performances at Whitetail Run Golf Course Tuesday afternoon.

The boys team took six of the top eight places led by defending champion Keeghan Hurley. The girls placed five in the top nine spots led by runner-up Brynnan Covington and Lizzie Fudge in third place.

“We actually use this race as kind of a tempo run,” Hurley said. “We start out slow and try to close as hard as we can.”
