Meet Coverage Central: Week Three

BOYS RECAP: On a flat fast stretch of land in Moorhead Minnesota group of boys unleashed the four fastest races of the season so far in Minnesota including a blistering 15:09.4 from Staples-Motley junior Emmet Anderson for the win. West Central Area senior Jacob Bright, Staples-Motley Senior Hunter Klimek and Perham senior Brandon O'Hara all ran under 15:40 on the day, each passing the previous best time run by a Minnesota runner this season. East Grand Forks junior Tyson Mahar, West Fargo (N.D.) junior Jacob Knodle, Bemidji senior Gage Mostad and Perham senior Bailey Evenson all went under 16 minutes on the day. MNXCCA ranked no. 1 Perham was the team champ with a blazing fast 16:12 team average over a 74 second split including three runners in the top ten (under 16:08). Bemidji's narrow 53 second split gave them the edge over WCA despite having a two second slower team average. While it seems the Twilight course at Minnesota State Moorhead was fast (the slowest scoring runner in the meet ran an 18:18) the times are impressive and Emmet Anderson shattered his schools 5k record.

GIRLS RECAP: MNXCCA no. 2 Staples-Motley clipped no. 4 ranked Perham by just four points. Staples-Motley eighth grader Kyanna Burton took the individual title with a 19:01.7. Perham eighth grader Aspen Rohde was second in 19:15.9 a few ticks in front of Moorhead senior Taylor Melton in 19:17.5 to even the score between the two with each one claiming a head to head win as the top runner for their respective teams (Melton bettered Rohde at the Brave Like Gabe Invite on 8/24). Legacy (N.D.) junior Jadyn Guidinger and West Fargo (N.D.) junior Stansbury Onnica rounded out the top five individuals with both going under 19:30.

FULL MEET RESULTS

BOYS RECAP: MNXCCA No. 5 Stillwater took home the team title with five in the top 17 over a 53 second split and a 16:52 average, led by junior Ethan Vargas in third place. Math & Science senior Harris Anderson was the individual winner in 16:03.7 edging runner-up, Winona senior Carter Briggs by six seconds. Vargas was followed by Farmington senior Noah Revels and fifth place finisher, Winona junior Cody Peterson. Farmington was second as a team with five in the top 22 finishers.

GIRLS RECAP: The matchup between star juniors Analee Weaver of Stillwater and Anna Fenske of Farmington went to Weaver who led her team to the victory as well. The MNXCCA no. 4 Ponies put their top five in the top 11 and all seven came through in the top 28. Weaver's winning time was 18:15.3 head of Fenske's 18:41.6. Stillwater also had freshmen Avery Braunshausen and Brook Elfert go under 19 minutes on the day and fellow freshman Morgan Peterman joined them in the top five.

BOYS RECAP: This meet served as two-mile preview of the St Paul City League Championship later this season. Saint Paul Highland Park took home the team win over second place Saint Paul Central. Central senior and newly MNXCCA no. 9 ranked Mickies Kiros took the individual win in 10:02 just ahead of Highland Park senior Calvin Boone. Saint Paul Como Park senior Alistair Patison, Highland Park junior Jesse Peterson and Central junior Adam Oulgout rounded out the top five individuals.

GIRLS RECAP: Highland Park sophomore and coaches ranked no. 6 Molly Moening took home the individual win in 12:00 with her teammate Delia Johnson 18 seconds back in second place. Highland Park had their perfect score victory bid broken up by Central High sophomore Iris Guider who took third overall. Highland Park senior Caroline Harding and freshman Chloe Koch rounded out the top five individuals.

BOYS RECAP: Forest Lake took three of the top four spots including winner, senior Max Charlsen in 16:45.3, to win the Bluejacket Invite by nearly 100 points. Forest Lake sophomore Daniel Vanacker was second, just ahead of Centennial sophomore Jonathan Pattie back in third. Forest Lake senior Austin Sievers finished fourth ahead of Andover sophomore and no. 1 runner Cameron Heppner in fifth. Forest Lake averaged a 17:14 over a 1:29 split with all five scorers in the top nine when no one else had more than a single athlete finish that highly.

GIRLS RECAP: Forest Lake pulled ahead of second place Andover in the final two scoring spots for the team victory. Andover junior Alyssa Gerth edged Forest Lake junior Natalie Runquist who was just seconds in front of third place Anoka eighth grader Kaelyn Nelson in one of the tightest 1-2-3 finishes in Minnesota this weekend. All three dipped below 19:40 in the close finish. Forest Lake freshman Ellie Hanowski was fourth in front of fourth place Andover junior Claire Beckman. Forest Lake averaged a 20:31 and put all five scorers in the top 12 and all seven in the top 18 overall.
