Poll: Minnesota Boys and Girls Runner of the Week

Week 1 of Championship season is over with, with a few more weeks of conference and section meets to come! It's really exciting to be back at this point, and last week we had some impressive performances from many runners going into the most important part of the season!

This poll will be for performances from October 11th to October 17th. 

Each will there will be four boys and four girls for each poll. Participants are based on the MileSplit Minnesota staff's opinions. The rest is up to you!

Sam Scott won his 6th straight meet of the season and his 2nd straight Minneapolis City Conference title en route to making history at Gale Woods Farm. He ran a state-leading time of 15:12.30 to beat out his teammate Owen Lindseth by 50 seconds for the title. His time of 15:12.30 is the second-fastest boys time ever at Gale Wood Farms, just 3 seconds behind Wayzata's Connor Olson. 

Nick Gilles won by a large margin by running the second-best time in the state this season of 15:16.30 at the Lake Conference Championships. He won by 32 seconds over Caden Nordberg of STMA. This is the first win of the season for Gilles. Gilles now has the 3rd fastest time ever at Gale Wood Farms only behind Connor Olson (15:09), and Sam Scott (15:12). He also led the Minnetonka boys to a 2nd place finish behind Wayzata. 

Caden Nordberg ran a lifetime best of 15:48.90 at the Lake Conference Championships for a huge 28 second PR to finish 2nd overall behind Nick Gilles. This is his first 5K under 16:00 ever and an improvement of over a minute from last year's Lake Conference meet for Nordberg. 

Noah Breker won the Northwest Suburban Conference Championship with a time of 15:51.50. He beat out runner-up, Gabriel Birkmeier, by 22 seconds. This is his third straight win and performance under 16:00 on the season. 



Ali Weimer ran like a whole different runner at the Lake Conference Championships en route to a huge PR of 17:17.90 to beat Sydney Drevlow by almost 24 seconds. This is a 23 second PR for Weimer and a 26 second seasonal best time. This is her fifth straight win of the season and the 37th best time nationally this season (as of this writing). With her time of 17:17.90, Weimer now has the Lake Conference Championships record. She beats out Abbey Nechanickys time of 17:29.40 from last year. This is also the second-fastest time ever at Gale Woods Farm for a girl, only behind Emily Coverts 16:56 from 2018. 

Sara Gastony led the Prior Lake girl's to a team win at the South Suburban Conference Championships ending Farmington's conference win streak at 4. Gastony finished 3rd overall with a time of 19:16.10 to finish 12 seconds behind Zoie Dundon. This is the 4th fastest time by an eighth-grader at the South Suburban Championship all-time. 

Ella Graham ran her best race of the season right when her team needed it most. Graham led the Minnetonka girls to a Lake Conference Championships over Edina by 1 point by running a season-best time of 18:28.50 to keep the Minnetonka girls undefeated on the season. 

Amanda Overgaauw just keeps winning her races and in the runner of the week poll (2-times). Overgaauw won her 8th straight meet of the season at the Adrian Invite. She won the meet by 55 seconds over Tenley Nelson.
