We at MileSplit Minnesota recently caught up with Bills to talk about his track and field career, getting recruited, and his upcoming outdoor track and field season.

---

How did you first get involved with track and field?

I originally got involved in track and field for football since it was like off-season training for me.

You have largely done only throwing events as a track and field athlete, how did you decide throws were your best events?

Partially because I was always pretty strong for my age but mostly because my dad was a thrower and I wanted to be like him.

You just announced your commitment to Arizona State University for track and field, how does it feel to have your commitment shored up for your future?

It feels really good to have the recruiting process off of my shoulders so now I can just focus on lifting, eating, and throwing.

How did you come to choose ASU for your collegiate career?

I really like the quality of throwers that they have produced there and I also liked that they have a young coach that went to the University.

Were there any other schools you considered?

My top four were ASU, LSU, TCU, and Auburn.

Your coach there will be Ryan Whiting, a former Olympian, and World Champion. Did his recent hiring play a role in your commitment there?

It definitely played a large role in my commitment to ask you I liked the thought of having a coach that has competed on the world's largest stages and I think that would be a very large benefit as an athlete.

What was the recruiting process like for you?

After I got the state meet record, the recruiting process really picked up through the summer and into the fall. It was always very exciting to get recruited but towards the end, it got a little tiring and I was glad when I was able to commit and be done with it.

For those on the team currently or those you know will be joining you in your class, who are you most looking forward to training and competing with?

It would be really great if Turner Washington was still down there training when I come down but besides that, I am really looking forward to meeting everyone on the team.

This spring, you will be the top discus and shot put returner in Minnesota, what goals do you have for this season and for the national meets this summer?

I hope to shatter both the shotput and discus state records this year and as far as national meets I always play to win.

Coming from a Rosemount program with many great throwers, how does it feel to be among the best in school history?

I feel very honored to be able to carry on a tradition like that for one more year but it will feel great as soon as I have the shot put record too.

What has been your favorite high school track and field memory during your career thus far?

I would have to say anytime I get to celebrate with my teammates after a big meet win.
