On his last throw of the competition, and his final throw representing Rosemount, Bills hurled his record throw of 207" 0" to break the state record by 5' 5".

Bills had already previously broken the state shot put record by throwing 66' 8.75" to break Thomas Anderson's previous record by just over a foot.

Bills now ranks #3 nationally for the discus and for the shot put.

Bills now holds the distinction of being one of two Minnesota boys athletes to hold two state records in non-wheelchair and relay events. Only Bills and Joseph Fahnbulleh hold two individual state records.

Bills along with Claire Kohler and Jordyn Borsch all broke state records on day three of the 2023 state championships.
