Hayden Bills came into the season with two goals on his mind, breaking the state records for the shot put and discus.
May 19th - Throws 66' 8.75" to break the 11 year old shot put record... CHECK!
June 10th - Throws 207 feet in the discus to break the 22 year old record... CHECK!
Bills is now unquestionably the greatest Minnesota boys thrower in state history smashing the Minnesota state records for the shot put and discus in one of the most dominant seasons ever seen by a Minnesota track and field athlete.

Going into his final throw of the competition, Bills had already secured another state discus title, but had only thrown 190' 7", well behind Karl Erickson's record. On his last throw of the competition, and his final throw representing Rosemount, Bills hurled his record throw of 207" 0" to break the state record by 5' 5".
Bills had already previously broken the state shot put record by throwing 66' 8.75" to break Thomas Anderson's previous record by just over a foot.
Bills now ranks #3 nationally for the discus and for the shot put.
Bills now holds the distinction of being one of two Minnesota boys athletes to hold two state records in non-wheelchair and relay events. Only Bills and Joseph Fahnbulleh hold two individual state records.
Bills along with Claire Kohler and Jordyn Borsch all broke state records on day three of the 2023 state championships.
