Here we look at the five bold predictions for the 2023 Hamline Elite Meet.

---

Jordyn Borsch Breaks the 100m, 200m, and 400m Meet Records

Jordyn Borsch a senior at Maple Grove was one of the breakthrough runners of the 2022 outdoor track and field season in Minnesota. Last year she won 100m and 400m state titles for Class AAA and entered top-ten marks all-time in the 100m, 200m, and 400m.

This season, Borsch has run in just two meets but has won all six races she has entered. She has posted the #1 200m and 400m times in Minnesota, and the #4 100m times.

And she is just getting started.

We predict that Borsch and her elite speed will not only win the 100m, 200m and 400m at the Hamline Elite Meet, but break all those meet records in the process.

Those current meet records are held by:

EventAthleteTimeYear
100mJedah Caldwell12.012016
200mJedah Caldwell24.382016
400mHonour Finley54.982016

Borsch currently has PRs of 11.78 in the 100m, 24.07 in the 200m, and 54.27 in the 400m. She has consistently shown that she can show up at the biggest meets of the season and has the talent and determination to break every record in sight this season, starting with the Hamline Elite Meet records.

Last year she won both the 200m and 400m titles at the Hamline Elite Meet. This year we think she can do herself one better in the wins department and take a few records along the way.

Hayden Bills Breaks the State Discus Record

It may not seem bold to predict that last year's state discus champion and a thrower with a personal best of 196' 2" will break the state record for the discus, but the record has stood for 22 years for a reason.

The record is held by Rochester Century graduate Karl Erickson who in 2001 had a monster throw of 201' 7". Rosemount's Hayden Bills is already so close with his mark of 196' 7" and he seems to be hitting his stride earlier this season than last year.

Bills has started his season off strong in the discus with throws of 181' 5" and 188' 9" this month. Last year he didn't reach those marks until late May and June.

With those spectacular early season marks on his record, an elite meet on the horizon, elite competition at the meet, and big crowds cheering him on; it's not hard to see the conditions lining up perfectly for a huge and historic throw for Bills.

Let's hope the meet officials have a long enough tape measure this time as when Erickson set his record, they were a bit short on the measurement the first time around.

It's a Breakthrough Meet for Washburns Hattie Anderson

Already in the middle of a breakout season, we believe that Minneapolis Washburn freshman Hattie Anderson will be the breakout star of the 2023 Hamline Elite Meet even if she doesn't win any of her four events.

Anderson is currently entered in the 100m, the 4x100m, the 4x200m, and the long jump. See how she and her team are seeded in those events:

EventMark/TimeSeed
100m12.6715th
Long Jump18' 0.25"2nd
4x100m50.273rd
4x200m1:47.698th

Anderson has shown that she is a competitor after running an extensive indoor season that included appearances at the MVP Vibe Fest in Chicago and New Balance Nationals Indoor. Across all competitions, indoor and outdoor, this season she has seven wins overall (according to our database) and ranks among the best in her class and all of Minnesota.

We think that with her competitive nature, her proclivity for the biggest stage and her talent that Anderson will be the breakout star of the 2023 Hamline Elite Meet and cement her status as a track and field star in Minnesota for the rest of her high school career.

Three Boys Go Sub 9 Minutes in the 3200m

It's an incredibly loaded field in the boys 3200m at the 2023 Hamline Elite Meet with three of the top 3200m runners in state history (Scott, Gilles & Jones), last year's standout freshmen boys in Mechura and Wirth, and state champion Alden Keller.

With some of the top 3200m runners in state history coming together, a couple of young distance stars in Minnesota, and with the overall distance talent we at MileSplit Minnesota think this is the meet where the field carries each other to new PRs and PRs under the elusive 9 minute barrier.

Only Jaret Carpenter has run under 9 minutes at the Hamline Elite Meet with a performance of 8:59.76 in 2016. We think not just one or two, but three runners will join him in that group and that this race will be one of the fastest in state history.

Both Nelson and Schloeder Break the Meet PV Record

Rochester Century's Nathan Nelson and Rockfords Brian Schloeder rank at the top two pole vaulters in Minnesota this year and the only two over 15 feet. Schloeder currently ranks first with a height of 15' 4" with Nelson just behind him at 15' 3". Nelson also ranked first for the indoor season with a mark of 15' 6.25".

The current meet record is held by Mounds View graduate Calvin Ciganik who jumped 15' 8" at the 2018 Hamline Elite Meet.

3Payton KasperMound-Westonka14' 9"

5Tristan FaberRockford14' 3"

Both pole vaulters have shown that they are elite talent with her consistently high marks in the pole vault. Both are among the most prolific high school pole vaulters in state history, hold high marks for class records, and have state meet and Hamline experience.

Given the competition and the competitive nature of the Hamline Elite Meet, we predict that both Nelson and Schloeder will set new personal best marks that eclipse Ciganiks 15' 8" mark from five years ago.
