Luverne Invite
Location: Luverne High School, Luverne
Weather: Low 40s and cloudy
BOYS
Virtual Meet Projections: Lac Qui Parle Valley/Dawson-Boyd (26), Luverne (56), Canby/Minneota (71)
Top Individuals: Mikey Kvaal (LQPVDB, 16:36), Ezekiel Sather (LQPVDB, 16:39), Brayden Tofteland (Luverne, 17:15), Dalton Desollar (Luverne, 17:18), Mason Brehmer (LQPVDB, 17:29)
The Skinny: Lac Qui Parle Valley will be tough to beat today with their current ranking of fourth in Class A. In their most recent race, they won with 22 points ahead of Canby with 77 points. Canby will be facing Luverne for the second place spot and it will be their first time competing against each other this year. One of LQPV's biggest strengths is their top two front running individuals of Mikey Kvaal and Ezekiel Sather. The two tend to finish right next to each other, Kvaal tending to be the more dominant of the two as Sather has only come out on top once. Those two seem to be the only title contenders at today's race. Sather is having a breakout season with a 37 second personal best already this season. Improving upon his 57th place finish at the state meet last year will be crucial to help them get closer to the top of the ranks.
GIRLS
Virtual Meet Projections: Luverne (41), Lac Qui Parle Valley/Dawson-Boyd (58.5), Canby/Minneota (74)
Top Individuals: Tenley Nelson (Luverne, 18:21), Grace Drietz (Canby, 18:32), Regan Feit (Luverne, 19:03), Isabel Schirm (LQPVDB, 19:29), Grace Hegland (LQPVDB, 20:13)
The Skinny: With two ranked teams in the race, this race will be an exciting one to watch. Luverne comes into this meet ranked third in Class A ahead of Lac Qui Parle Valley who are ranked eleventh in Class A. LQPV is up one spot from last week's rankings after their most recent win at the Yellow Medicine Invitational. Canby was only six points behind them so they should not be counted out from this race and pulling off a big upset. However, both teams will most likely have a tough time beating the solid team from Luverne. That same race saw Isabel Schirm and Grace Drietz finish first and second, however, Drietz won by over a minute. It looks like the individual title will come down to Tenley Nelson and Drietz. They are right next to each other in the rankings, Nelson in eighth and Drietz in eleventh. This race could be a big one to shake up both the individual and team rankings.
