Ten Class AA Boys Individuals to Watch Out For in 2018

Max Manley, Edina, Sr

After Edina graduated superstars Patrick Roos and Zac Miller, they were in need of a new low stick to have a chance to compete with the perennial powerhouse, Wayzata. Max Manley quickly rose to the challenge, placing highly in early season meets and besting his previous PR in just the second race of the year. Manley shone in the national spotlight at the Roy Griak Invitational, where he was 6th and the top Minnesota finisher, overcoming grueling conditions. He then went on to place top five at the State Meet in November. Unfortunately, an illness at NXR kept him from running his best, and his season (as well as his team's season) finished on a down-note. As a result, he came into the track season hungrier than anyone else. Manley showed peak form at the Hamline Elite Meet, where he blazed past Joseph Minor and Khalid Hussein in the final 100 meters to grab the win. He now boasts the top returning times in both the 1600m and the 3200m of 4:13.85 and 9:08.90 after placing second at the State Meet in both events. Additionally, Manley has experience competing with elite athletes at NXN in 2016 and USATF Junior Nationals this spring, so the senior will definitely be a force to be reckoned with this fall.
